Ms. Sonali Mishra, IPS, Assumes Charge as Director General of Railway Protection Force

 

New Delhi – The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has proudly welcomed Ms. Sonali Mishra, IPS (1993 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre), as the new Director General of the RPF, marking a historic milestone in the 143-year journey of the force. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved her appointment until her retirement on 31st October 2026.

Renowned for her professionalism, dedication, and leadership in key policing roles, Ms. Mishra brings over three decades of distinguished service to this position. Prior to this, she served as Additional Director General (Selection/Recruitment) and also held additional charge as ADG at the Police Training and Research Institute, Bhopal, and Director at the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy, Bhopal. She has also served in the CBI and BSF, and possesses international experience through her service in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo.

Ms. Mishra has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, recognizing her unwavering commitment to excellence and professionalism.

As one of the world's largest rail networks, the RPF bears the responsibility for the protection of railway property, passenger safety, and crime prevention. Under Ms. Mishra’s visionary and inclusive leadership, the force is expected to benefit immensely. Her extensive experience across state and central police organizations is anticipated to accelerate modernization, capacity building, and community engagement initiatives within the force.

Notably, her focus will be on enhancing RPF’s efforts through cutting-edge technology and strengthening its role in combating organized crimes such as human trafficking and offenses against vulnerable passengers.

Upon assuming charge, Ms. Mishra expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed her commitment to uphold the core values of vigilance, bravery, and service that define the RPF’s motto, “Yasho Labhasva.”

The force proudly welcomes its new leader and looks forward to achieving new milestones under her guidance.
