Rajsamand, As part of the inauguration of the 49th Mines Safety Week 2025, Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar Mines organized a technical workshop and executive body meeting at the Rajpura Dariba Complex. The key focus of the workshop was to review current blasting practices and adopt the latest technologies to ensure safe and efficient blasting operations.
The initiative was conducted under the guidance of Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, North-Western Zone, Udaipur Region. The core aim was to identify best practices and safe alternatives in blasting-related mining operations.
Chief Guest Tom Mathew, Director of Mines Safety, North-Western Zone, Udaipur Region, emphasized that mining is the backbone of all industries, and drilling and blasting are its core. Just as uncontrolled electricity use can be hazardous, uncontrolled blasting can also be dangerous. Hence, proper blasting and thorough understanding among all stakeholders is imperative.
This timely and valuable workshop brought together scientific agencies, explosive manufacturers, and mining companies to collectively promote safer and more advanced practices. Mathew expressed confidence that the entire mining community in the Udaipur region would greatly benefit from the workshop.
Representing Hindustan Zinc, IBU CEO of Rajpura Dariba Complex, Balwant Singh Rathore, reiterated the workshop’s objectives, which included a comprehensive review of existing blasting techniques and the introduction of advanced technologies to enhance blasting safety and efficiency. Insights from the leading explosive manufacturing company Orica were also shared, strengthening the theme of collaborative learning for achieving zero damage in mining operations.
The event witnessed active participation from 66 leading regional and national industrial companies, including Wonder Cement Ltd., Nuvoco Vistas, The India Cement Ltd., JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., Birla Cement Works, Khaitan Business Corporation, Rajasthan Barytes, and Aravali Polyart Pvt. Ltd.
