The patient, who had previously sought consultation at several centers without any lasting relief, was diagnosed using MRI under the ARCO classification system, revealing Stage 2A AVN in the right hip and Stage 3A in the left. Given the patient’s young age and the progressive nature of AVN—which can lead to irreversible joint collapse and the need for total hip replacement—Dr. Khanna opted for a two-stage, hip-preserving surgery using advanced stem cell therapy.

The innovative procedure involved bilateral core decompression combined with the implantation of fibrin glue mixed with cultured osteoblasts. These osteoblasts—bone-forming cells—were harvested from the patient’s own bone marrow, isolated, and multiplied using PCR amplification technology. The mixture was then precisely implanted into the necrotic zones of the femoral heads, promoting natural bone regeneration in the affected weight-bearing areas.

Commenting on the success of the surgery, Dr. Rahul Khanna stated:

“AVN is a serious condition that, if not addressed early, often results in complete joint collapse requiring total hip replacement—something we aim to avoid, especially in younger patients. In this case, we adopted a novel, ortho-biologics-based technique known as Ossgrow. By combining core decompression with stem cell therapy, we not only removed the damaged bone but also enabled the body to regenerate healthy bone from within. This is a significant step toward preserving the natural joint and ensuring long-term mobility.”
