Kota, 14 July 2025: In a historic achievement for the Indian library and information science community, Dr. Deepak Kumar Shrivastava, the Divisional Librarian & Head of Government Divisional Public Library, Kota (Rajasthan), has been elected as the Information Coordinator of the IFLA Government Libraries Section for the term 2025–2027.

This landmark announcement was officially made today by IFLA Secretary General Ms. Sheron Momims,  marking Dr. Shrivastava as the first Indian librarian ever to hold this prestigious international post in the history of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

A Milestone of Representation and Leadership

Dr. Shrivastava's election signifies not only India’s growing influence in global knowledge governance but also the recognition of his pioneering work in public librarianship, accessibility, and digital transformation. His leadership has helped redefine public libraries in India—turning them into inclusive, dynamic spaces for lifelong learning.

Dr. Shrivastava has:

§  Been featured on the IFLA Wall of Fame and recognized among the Top 75 Librarians of India.

§  Transformed public libraries in Rajasthan with innovative services for the visually impaired, transgender persons, and nomadic communities,

§  Received prestigious accolades including the ASLIP Best Progressive Librarian Award 2024.

§  Delivered keynote addresses on ethical AI, inclusive reading services, and post-NEP educational reforms in India and abroad.
