Uttar Pradesh Approves Two New Private Universities

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the establishment of two new private universities in the state. This move marks a significant step toward expanding higher education infrastructure in the region. Letters of intent have been issued for both institutions.

The two new universities are:

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ramayana University, Ayodhya

Ajay Kumar Garg University, Ghaziabad

The government, working with the mission of making education accessible, inclusive, and contemporary, has issued formal permission for their operation. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that the state is encouraging innovation and infrastructure development in higher education through private sector participation. He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh will emerge as a leading state in the education sector in the coming years.

The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ramayana University, promoted by the Maharishi Ramayana Vidyapeeth Trust, Delhi, has been notified under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2025, and has been granted a Letter of Authorization. The university will now be able to operate formally as per the stipulated conditions.

The proposed Ajay Kumar Garg University, promoted by the Indian Institute of Management and Engineering Society, Ghaziabad, has been issued a Letter of Intent under Section 6 of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. To proceed with its establishment, the institution is required to fulfill specific criteria, including a minimum endowment fund of ₹5 crore, 20 acres of land in an urban area, and at least 24,000 square meters of academic building space.

The approval process was attended by Minister of State for Higher Education Rajni Tiwari, Principal Secretary M.P. Agrawal, Special Secretary Nidhi Srivastava, and other departmental officials.
