First Orbital Atherectomy Case of Southern Rajasthan Successfully Performed at Paras Hospital

Udaipur,In a historic advancement for cardiac care in Southern Rajasthan, Dr. Amit Khandelwal, Director, Cardiology Department at Paras Hospital Udaipur, has successfully performed the region’s first Orbital Atherectomy procedure—a significant step forward in treating patients with heavily calcified coronary blockages.
This breakthrough #ComplexAngioplasty case has been selected for presentation at India’s premier cardiology conference – #CSI NIC 2025, to be held from June 26 to 29, 2025 at the Jio Convention Centre, Mumbai. The case received special appreciation and interaction from renowned Japanese cardiologist Dr. Takashi Akasaka, adding international recognition to the achievement.
The use of #OrbitalAtherectomy, under the guidance of #IntraVascularUltrasound (#IVUS), allowed precise calcium and plaque modification, making #StentPlacement safer and more effective. According to Dr. Khandelwal, this cutting-edge technique is a boon for patients who are not ideal candidates for #BypassSurgery, offering smoother vessel preparation and better long-term outcomes.
Alongside this, the Paras Cardiology team has also been implementing other advanced calcium modification techniques such as #Rotablation and #IntraVascularLithotripsy (#IVL).
