### Collective Efforts Essential for Eradication of Sickle Cell Anemia – TAD Minister Babulal Kharadi

 

Udaipur,A state-level awareness program was organized on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day under the Dharti Aba Janbhagidari Abhiyan at the Center of Competence for Sickle Cell Disease, Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital, Udaipur. The event, held at the RNT Auditorium, was graced by the Tribal Area Development Minister Mr. Babulal Kharadi as the Chief Guest.

Other notable guests included Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain, Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, NHM Blood Cell In-Charge Manish Chaudhary, Joint Director Prakash Chandra Sharma, and TRI Director Dr. O.P. Jain.

The program began with a welcome by Dr. R.L. Suman, Superintendent of MB Hospital and Nodal Officer of the program. He outlined the objectives of the event, which focused on increasing public awareness about sickle cell disease, promoting screening efforts, and ensuring dedicated healthcare services for patients. He also elaborated on the various services available at the Center of Competence for Sickle Cell Disease.

Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister Mr. Kharadi emphasized that the eradication of diseases is a key responsibility of the government, and continuous efforts are being made in this direction. Noting the high prevalence of sickle cell anemia in tribal regions, he called for collective action to combat the disease. He urged people to spread awareness and motivate affected individuals to seek timely treatment. He raised the slogan “Healthy Individual, Healthy Society, Healthy Nation” and encouraged active public participation.

Screening of 56 People, 15 Disability Certificates Issued
Dr. Suman informed that the program included detailed sessions on the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of sickle cell disease. Two special counters were set up for free screening and issuing disability certificates. A total of 56 individuals were screened, and 15 were issued disability certificates.

He highlighted that the Udaipur-based center is the second Disease Center of Competence in India and the world’s first Sickle Cell Wellness Hub supported by the NN Organization. The hub is committed to improving the lives of patients through dedicated diagnosis, treatment, and training. It offers daily OPD and IPD services, comprehensive diagnostics and care, outreach programs, and training for health workers across nine tribal districts.

24x7 Helpline Launched
On the occasion, Minister Kharadi also launched a 24x7 sickle cell helpline. He inaugurated the helpline by dialing the number 8690088847, which is now available to citizens of Udaipur and Rajasthan. Citizens can also contact Room No. 524 at the Children's Hospital, Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital, or call the helpline numbers 8690088847 or 0294-2528811-17 (Ext. 2410) for information and assistance.

Recognition for Outstanding Contribution
During the event, 10 doctors and staff members were honored for their exemplary work with the center. Awardees included Dr. Bhupesh Jain (Assistant Nodal Officer), Dr. Kapil Sharma (CHC, Falasiya), Dheeraj Vyas (Nursing Officer – Newborn Screening), Hemant Joshi (Nursing Officer – Newborn Screening), Prakash Khant (Nursing Officer – Center of Competence), Divesh Tiwari (Novo Nordisk Education Foundation), Sanju Sharma (ICMR Project), among others. The event was conducted by Nursing Officer Lalit Pargi.
