Eminent Sanskrit Scholars Converge in Nashik for ‘Utkarsh Mahotsav’

Nashik, In a significant step toward revitalizing India’s classical linguistic heritage, Central Sanskrit University (CSU), New Delhi, inaugurated the three-day ‘Utkarsh Mahotsav’ at its Nashik campus. The event commenced with a high-level national symposium on the theme “Ten-Year Roadmap for the Promotion of Sanskrit,” attracting prominent scholars, vice-chancellors, and researchers from over 18 Sanskrit universities and institutions across India.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Pankaj T. Chande, former Vice-Chancellor of Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, advocated for modernizing Sanskrit education through digital integration and global outreach. He proposed forming a National Consortium of Sanskrit Universities under CSU leadership for collaborative growth.

CSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Srinivas Varakhedi chaired the inaugural session and stressed the importance of aligning pedagogy with student aspirations. He emphasized the training of a new generation of Sanskrit scholars capable of teaching Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in institutions like IITs and IIMs.

The event also featured the signing of MoUs between Central Sanskrit Universities to foster academic cooperation. Prof. Neelabh Tiwari, Director of CSU Nashik, welcomed the delegates, while Prof. Madan Mohan Jha announced new initiatives to boost academic innovation.

Celebrated Sanskrit author Nityananda Mishra was honored with the ‘Sanskrit Sevavrati Award’ for his significant literary contributions. Accepting the award, he said, “Sanskrit is not merely a language but a spiritual commitment.”

The symposium included insightful panel discussions, with scholars exploring the potential of AI in Sanskrit education, institutional reforms, and sustainable career pathways. Moderated by Prof. Kuldeep Sharma, the second session featured contributions from renowned academics including Prof. G.S.R. Krishnamurthy, Prof. Sukanta Senapati, Prof. Prahlad Joshi, Prof. Hareram Tripathi, Prof. Shivshankar Mishra, Dr. Amrita Kaur, and Dr. K. Sambashiva Murthy.

The day concluded with an exhibition showcasing academic innovations from the three Central Sanskrit Universities under the theme of ‘Utkarsh.’

The Mahotsav will continue for two more days, featuring paper presentations, workshops, and cultural events focused on the future of Sanskrit in India and beyond.
