Udaipur, Member of Parliament from Udaipur constituency, Dr. Mannalal Rawat, stated that the Mewar region will play a significant role in realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India under the “Viksit Bharat 2047” mission. He made this remark during a press conference held on the completion of his first year in office.
Dr. Rawat announced that a comprehensive dialogue program titled “Samvad 2025” will be organized on June 8 to discuss Mewar’s contribution to the Viksit Bharat mission. He highlighted that the vision includes ensuring every citizen’s right to education, healthcare, employment, clean water, and dignified living—and Mewar's participation in achieving these goals will be vital.
Clarifying the concept of “Viksit Mewar 2047,” Dr. Rawat emphasized Mewar's historical and cultural legacy, global recognition in minerals, hospitality, agriculture, forestry, and handicrafts. He proposed the integration of “Three Ts”—Technology, Trade, and Training—into the region's existing economic base of Tourism, Tribal, and Transport sectors. This, he said, aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Heritage and Development.”
Dr. Rawat stressed the importance of accelerating the development of historical sites associated with Maharana Pratap, noting that these can attract global tourism while also boosting the local economy. He also pointed to Mewar’s high potential for solar energy utilization, given its nearly 300 sunny days annually.
In terms of agricultural transformation, he mentioned ongoing discussions with ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) regarding tissue culture enhancement for custard apples, which are abundant in the region.
On infrastructure, Dr. Rawat shared that direct rail connectivity from Udaipur to major South Indian cities is in the pipeline, which will significantly boost trade, industry, and services.
During the press conference, journalists raised concerns and suggestions regarding village tourism, smart city projects, and water supply in the old city. Dr. Rawat welcomed the inputs and assured efforts toward resolving the issues.
Impactful Outcomes from the First Year
Dr. Rawat emphasized that development is a continuous process, and efforts made over the past year will soon reflect on the ground. He cited the approval of a ₹7,300 crore project by the Chief Minister to bring surplus water from Jakham to water-scarce villages across a distance of around 80 km. This initiative also includes the revival of rivers and over a dozen ponds along the route to ensure regional water availability.
Expressing concern over rising road accidents, Dr. Rawat revealed that over 2,000 accidents occurred in Udaipur in one year, resulting in 541 deaths. He has raised the issue of six black spots on the Udaipur-Sirohi Highway with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, leading to a ₹100 crore allocation for corrections. Similar proposals are underway for the Udaipur-Ahmedabad Highway.
Efforts are also progressing to establish a Medical College and a Navodaya Vidyalaya in Salumber, with positive outcomes expected soon.
Inclusive Planning for Development
On June 8, an event titled “Ek Shaam Rashtra Ke Naam” will be held at Atal Auditorium, Sector 4, Hiran Magri, where current development schemes will be reviewed and expert opinions sought to enhance them. Public suggestions will be compiled, and viable solutions will be explored. Issues raised in Parliament and State Assemblies will be reviewed to identify development opportunities.
DMFT-Funded Projects to Drive Growth
Dr. Rawat shared that several initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (DMFT) have been approved for areas including Udaipur city, rural Udaipur, Kherwara, Jhadol, and Gogunda. These include training for youth and women to curb migration, improved horticulture through high-quality seeds and fruit trees, setting up math and robotics labs in schools, deepening wells, and constructing new anicuts for irrigation.
Strong Remarks on Political Opposition
In response to a query, Dr. Rawat accused the BAP party of being a “gang of looters,” referring to a recent bribery case involving one of their MLAs. He alleged that these parties are turning youth into stone-pelters and are influenced by external conspiratorial elements. He claimed they obstruct the region’s progress, education, women’s dignity, and youth empowerment.
