Udaipur, On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee's General Secretary and Spokesperson, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, addressed a large gathering at Shastri Circle in Udaipur, highlighting the severe health risks associated with tobacco consumption.
Sharma emphasized that approximately 253 million people aged 15 and above in India use tobacco, and nearly 3,600 individuals lose their lives daily due to tobacco-related diseases. He warned that tobacco use increases the risk of mouth cancer, lung cancer, and other serious illnesses by up to tenfold.
He called the tobacco addiction a critical public health challenge in India, particularly affecting youth and marginalized communities. Stressing the need for adopting a clean lifestyle, he urged people to distance themselves from tobacco in order to ensure a healthy future for themselves and coming generations.
“The Congress Party has always prioritized public health and will continue supporting de-addiction efforts at every level. It is our responsibility to safeguard the youth, and boycotting tobacco is a vital step in that direction,” Sharma said.
During the program, Pankaj Sharma also administered a pledge to the attendees to abstain from tobacco use.
