11th International Yoga Day to Be Celebrated on June 21

Udaipur : The 11th International Yoga Day will be observed on June 21 under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." A protocol-based rehearsal session was conducted on Saturday at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat auditorium of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University.

The keynote speaker, Deputy Director of Ayurveda Department, Dr. Rajeev Bhatt, emphasized that declining immunity due to modern lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits has become a serious concern, as witnessed during the COVID era. He stressed that yoga must become a part of daily routine to improve immunity, not just an annual observance. Highlighting the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), he noted that this year's theme includes not only human health but also the well-being of plants, animals, birds, and wildlife—interconnected elements of our planet.

Presiding over the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot stated that yoga teaches the art of living, enabling a longer and healthier life. He highlighted that sages in ancient India lived for thousands of years through yoga and meditation. Declaring yoga as India’s gift to the world, he mentioned that Lord Shiva is revered as the first Yoga Guru. The global celebration aims to unite people for a healthier future, focusing on global wellness.

He added that June 21 is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere and symbolically chosen as the International Yoga Day. The United Nations approved the proposal on December 11, 2014, with support from 177 member nations.

Chief Guest and Chancellor Bhanwar Lal Gurjar underlined the importance of promoting yoga among the underprivileged and rural populations, where 70% of India still resides. He stressed that yoga awareness should go beyond urban areas and reach every corner of the country.

Earlier, Prof. Saroj Garg welcomed the guests and announced the distribution of track suits to students enrolled in the PG Diploma in Yoga program.

The event was attended by Registrar Dr. Tarun Shrimali, Dr. Kaushal Nagda, Prof. G.M. Mehta, Dr. Rachna Rathore, Dr. Ami Rathore, Dr. Balidan Jain, Dr. Mamta Kumawat, Dr. Manish Paliwal, Anita Rajput, and Dr. Shubha Surana, along with many staff members and students.

Gaurav Bhatt conducted the program, while Yoga Coordinator Dr. Rohit Kumawat delivered the vote of thanks.
