Kota, Ashish Mehta, member of the Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), has reached Jabalpur to participate in the 22nd ZRUCC meeting scheduled for Friday. The meeting will be held at 11 AM in the Manan Sabha Hall of the General Manager’s office. A 36-point agenda has already been submitted to the railway authorities for discussion.
Key demands include the resumption of the Kota-Jabalpur Express, introduction of an Intercity Express between Kota-Nagda-Ratlam, extension of the Kota-Chomela MEMU train to Ratlam, weekly trains from Kota to Pune and bi-weekly services to Bengaluru, as well as new train services to Alwar, Dausa, and Mathura. Mehta has also urged the revival of several trains that were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additional proposals include a revision in the timing of the Dayodaya Express, speeding up bypass construction between Kushthala and Devpura, and initiating the long-pending Sheopur-Kota rail project. He also raised the issue of encroachments near the gate entry of Kota railway station that delay passenger access to platforms.
Mehta emphasized the need for computerized ticketing in parking areas, setting up prepaid taxi booths, and enhancing security along the Kota-Chhabra route due to rising complaints of anti-social activities.
Ticket Policy and Passenger Convenience Also on Agenda
In a major policy point, Mehta has called for a review of the current ticket issuance system based on seat ratio. While acknowledging its role in crowd management, he warned that it may lead to an increase in ticketless travel and passenger dissatisfaction. Instead, he urged the Railway Board to explore increasing the number of coaches and trains.
Among passenger convenience issues, Mehta highlighted the need for better shade and drinking water facilities at smaller stations, stricter quality checks on food and beverages, and the reinstatement of fare concessions for senior citizens. He also called for a fare reduction on the Vande Bharat Express and flagged the non-functional condition of lifts and escalators at several stations, requesting deployment of guards at escalators.
Mehta's proposals aim at improving safety, convenience, and accessibility for passengers across the region, reinforcing Kota’s voice in the regional railway development discourse.
