Range-Level Suraksha Sakhi Felicitation Ceremony

Udaipur : A felicitation ceremony honoring Suraksha Sakhis for their exceptional work in child and women protection was organized on Wednesday at the Udaipur Reserve Police Lines Auditorium. The event was held under the direction of Udaipur Inspector General of Police, Mr. Rajesh Meena.

Presiding over the event, Additional SP Harsh Ratnu emphasized the critical role of Suraksha Sakhis in society. He highlighted their function as a bridge between the public and police, and urged them to create a safe and positive environment for every woman in need by working in coordination with the police department. He encouraged them to empower women by making them self-reliant and aware of contemporary issues.

Ratnu appreciated the efforts of Suraksha Sakhis from across the range and stated that collective efforts are required to prevent crimes against any section of society. He urged parents to prioritize the education of daughters, keep children away from excessive mobile usage, and promote the responsible use of technology.

Guest of Honor, Additional SP Hitesh Mehta, discussed child safety and development, noting that child protection is a collective responsibility. He encouraged Sakhis to take active steps to eliminate child begging and labor by reporting through helpline 1098 or informing concerned authorities. He also shared information about One Stop Centers, Women Help Desks, and various government schemes such as the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, aimed at empowering women.

Keynote speaker Additional SP Chetna Bhati discussed safety challenges for girls and women, and elaborated on legal provisions concerning gender-based violence, domestic abuse, child abuse, cyber crimes, and sexual harassment. She motivated the Sakhis to raise awareness among women and train them in self-defense and self-reliance.

UNICEF’s Regional Child Protection Advisor, Mrs. Sindhu Binojeen, highlighted the objectives of the “Policing for Care of Children” initiative in collaboration with Rajasthan Police. She detailed the crucial role of Suraksha Sakhis in supporting missing children, preventing child marriage, ensuring safety of girls, and helping education-deprived children. The event aimed to boost their morale and recognize their impactful service.

Several Suraksha Sakhis from different districts shared their experiences during the ceremony. These included Dr. Vidya Menaria and Mrs. Vandana Rathore (Udaipur), Shahnaz Hussain and Mrs. Jayashree Soni (Banswara), Mrs. Kiran Soni (Chittorgarh), Mrs. Kusumlata Doshi (Dungarpur), Mrs. Sangeeta Chaudhary (Rajsamand), Mrs. Bharati Dadhich (Pratapgarh), and Mrs. Meena Kunwar and Mrs. Gajendra Kunwar (Salumber).
