Lagaan Ceremony Held at Bohra Ganesh Temple, Families Danced to Drum Beats in Celebration

Grand Preparations Begin with Wedding Rituals for Eklingnath Seva Sansthan's Mass Marriage Ceremony

Udaipur: The preparations for the first-ever all-community dowry-free mass marriage ceremony, organized by Shri Eklingnath Rashtriya Seva Sansthan on May 17, commenced with great enthusiasm through the traditional lagaan (engagement) ritual on Wednesday. The event took place at the Bohra Ganeshji Temple, where the couples and their families gathered in large numbers to mark the beginning of this auspicious celebration.

The lagaan ceremony began at 10 a.m. with Pandit Pawan Panchariya performing the rituals and writing individual engagement invitations (lagan patrika) for each couple in the sacred presence of Lord Bohra Ganesh. Organization founder Akash Bagdi, patron Nirmal Pandit, and state president Deepak Menaria handed over the engagement invitations, along with coconuts and sweets, to the brides' families. In turn, the brides’ families formally invited the grooms' families to the wedding.

The atmosphere was vibrant as the couples and their families danced joyfully to the beats of traditional drums, expressing the happiness they had long cherished for their children. Vandana and Nirmal, one of the engaged couples, shared emotionally that they could not have arranged such a beautiful celebration even if they had hosted a private wedding. “In today’s era of rising expenses, organizing a wedding with music and arrangements is a big challenge, but the organization has made everything possible without taking any money,” they said.

All the couples honored Akash Bagdi by offering him a ceremonial shawl. Bagdi shared that all preparations for the event are complete, and so far, 11 couples have registered. The marriage ceremony will be completely dowry-free and devoid of extravagance. Couples from all communities are welcome to participate without paying any fee.

Patron Nirmal Kumar Pandit and Vinod Pandey added that both the bride and groom must be adults and should marry with mutual consent. After the marriage, if any dispute arises, both parties are bound by a 30-year agreement to first consult the organization before approaching a court or police station. The organization will conduct two rounds of counseling. If the matter remains unresolved, the groom’s side must provide ₹1 lakh to the bride’s family to proceed with further separation steps.

Bagdi informed that after the wedding ceremonies on May 17, a devotional music night dedicated to Goddess Amba will be held. At around 3 p.m., a grand wedding procession (shobha yatra) will begin from Bohra Ganeshji Temple and proceed to Satyam Garden via Mahasatiya Chauraha. The procession will include elephants, horses, carriages, and musical bands. Each family is allowed to invite up to 50 guests.

This initiative is the first of its kind in Rajasthan, allowing participation from all communities in a dignified, dowry-free mass marriage—setting an inspiring example for society.
