Udaipur: On the second day of the three-day ‘Vasant Ritu Utsav’ at Shilpgram, renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Dr. Praveen Gaonkar from Goa and famous Kathak dancer Amit Gangani from the Jaipur gharana captivated the audience with their performances. The festival, organized by the Western Regional Cultural Centre Udaipur, is being held from February 28 to March 2 at the open-air amphitheater in Shilpgram.
Furkan Khan, Director of the Western Regional Cultural Centre, shared that on Saturday, Dr. Praveen Gaonkar mesmerized the audience with his melodious voice and deep understanding of Hindustani classical music. His performance brought the essence of the spring season to life musically, leaving the audience emotionally moved. This acclaimed singer from Goa won the hearts of music lovers with his art.
Meanwhile, Amit Gangani, a prominent Kathak artist from the Jaipur gharana, left the audience spellbound with his dance performance. His rendition clearly reflected the unique features of the Jaipur gharana, including rhythmic footwork, graceful gestures, and an energetic display. His dance brought the colors of the spring season to life on stage, prompting the audience to applaud.
The artists were honored for their performances. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, MD of RSMMM, Dr. Prem Bhandari, Devendra Hiran, and other prominent figures from the city. The event was conducted by Mohita Dixit.
**‘Shubh Din Ghadi Aaj Pragata Bhaye Nand Kanhai’**
Dr. Praveen Gaonkar, the renowned musician from Goa, presented a devotional piece "Shubh Din Ghadi Aaj Pragata Bhaye Nand Kanhai" in Raga Rageshwari, set to a slow Jhumla taal. This performance, based on the birth of Lord Krishna, was a treat for music enthusiasts. Raga Rageshwari, known for its calm and deeply emotional expressions, was beautifully enhanced with the slow Jhumla taal. The composition highlighted the auspiciousness of Lord Krishna's birth, which Dr. Gaonkar brought to life with his soulful music.
Dr. Gaonkar also performed "Nand Ghar Aaj Badhai Gavo Sab Mil Bajao Gunjijan" in Raga Pahadi Thumri and "Baaton-Baaton Mein Beet Gayi Raat Mori," captivating the audience with his melodious voice. Along with Dr. Gaonkar, Wasim Khan on Sarangi, Rohidas Parab on Tabla, Subhash on Harmonium, Vishal Rathod on Tanpura, and Dimpi Suhalka provided instrumental accompaniment.
**Shiv Tandav Stotra in Raga Vasant: A Divine Fusion of Dance and Devotion**
Dr. Amit Gangani and his Kathak dance troupe presented a remarkable fusion of dance, music, and devotion with their performance of the 'Shiv Tandav Stotra' in Raga Vasant. This performance, which combined the energy of the Tandav dance with the gentleness of Raga Vasant, left the audience mesmerized. The ‘Shiv Tandav Stotra’, composed by Ravana, is famous for its power and devotion. Dr. Gangani's team adapted this powerful stotra to the delicate melodies of Raga Vasant, blending Kathak’s rapid spins with Tandav's energy, creating a breathtaking performance.
Additionally, the traditional Holi song, composed by Pandit Sundarlal Gangani, was presented by Dr. Gangani and his Kathak troupe. The performance brought to life the joyous spirit of the Holi festival through a combination of Kathak's rhythm, spins, and expressive acting, which immersed the audience in the festive atmosphere. The accompaniment was provided by Pandit Rajesh Gangani on Tabla, Abhishek Gangani on Harmonium and vocals, Pandit Vinod Pawar on Sarangi, Bunty Arya on Flute and Sitar, and Shivam Gill on Percussion.

On Sunday, Mohammad Aman Khan will present a classical vocal performance. Following that, Kanak Sudhakar's renowned Bharatanatyam dance troupe from Delhi will showcase a stunning performance. The event is free to attend.
