The highly anticipated film The Diary of Manipur marks the Bollywood debut of Amit Rao, the elder brother of actor Rajkummar Rao. Directed by Sanoj Mishra, known for tackling pressing societal issues, the film revolves around the sensitive topic of violence in Manipur.
During a press conference in Mumbai, Sanoj Mishra revealed that the film intertwines a love story between a politician and a poor village girl against the backdrop of the ongoing unrest in Manipur. He described it as an emotional and powerful narrative but refrained from divulging too many details.
Sanoj Mishra, known for his earlier works like Kashi to Kashmir and The Diary of West Bengal, shared that he aims to present authentic societal truths through his films, regardless of opposition or threats. Taking a dig at filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, Mishra stated that he does not create films with a "leftist agenda" or misleading narratives.
Amit Rao, already a celebrated name in theatre, expressed his excitement about this project. He shared that despite receiving several film offers in the past, this compelling story convinced him to step into Bollywood. "This is the right time to begin my journey in the industry," he said, adding that the role allows him to explore the full spectrum of emotions.
The film, produced under the banner of Sanoj Mishra Films, features Amit Rao alongside well-known personalities like yoga expert Mansi Gulati and devotional singer Anup Jalota in pivotal roles. The supporting cast is still being finalized, with co-producers Yameen Khan, Javed Devariya Wale, Dhirendra Thakur, and Sanjay Kumar backing the project.
Present at the event were Apoorva Dutta, Deepak Sutha, Mahmood Ali, Mahima Gupta, Shweta, Gyan Chandra, Shiv Aryan, and Pappu Yadav. The film's promotions will be managed by Sanjay Bhushan Patiala.
