Jio Adds Most 'Active Subscribers': TRAI Report
Wireline Broadband Subscribers Cross 43.6 Million
New Delhi, According to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio leads the market in adding the most 'active subscribers'. In September 2024, Jio added approximately 1.7 million active subscribers. In contrast, Bharti Airtel added around 1.3 million, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost nearly 3.1 million customers during the same period.
Jio has secured the top position for adding the highest number of active subscribers for the second consecutive month. The decline in active subscribers for Airtel and Vodafone Idea contributed to an overall drop in the total active subscribers across the industry, with the number falling by 1.5 million to about 1.06 billion in September.
TRAI's data also reveals a significant increase in wireline broadband subscriptions, which now exceed 43.6 million. In September alone, the number of wireline broadband customers grew by 790,000. Reliance Jio led the charge by adding 634,000 new subscribers to its network, while Airtel added only 98,000. Meanwhile, BSNL lost 52,000 wireline broadband subscribers during the same period.
This trend highlights Jio's strong performance in expanding its subscriber base, while other telecom operators face challenges in retaining their customer base.
