Krishna Janmashtami Fair Enthralls Visitors at Pratap Gaurav Kendra

Udaipur:  The Shri Krishna Janmashtami Mela Mahotsav was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Monday at the Pratap Gaurav Kendra National Pilgrimage Site. From morning till evening, the Bhaktidham area was bustling with devotees. The beautifully dressed Radha-Krishna captivated everyone in the afternoon, while the entire complex echoed with chants of "Haathi Ghoda Paalki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki" during the Dahi-Handi competition in the evening.

The coordinator of the Janmashtami Mela Mahotsav, Dr. Rahul Jain, shared that the 5251st Janmashtami celebrations were inaugurated in the presence of Prof. B.P. Sharma, President of the Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Committee, and other committee members. The day began with a Panchamrit Abhishek ceremony at Bhaktidham from 6 AM to 9 AM, led by the temple priest, Lakshman, following the Purush Sukta rituals.

Anurag Saxena, Director of Pratap Gaurav Kendra, informed that the Radha-Krishna and Kanha-Yashoda costume competitions were held at 12 PM. Children aged 6 to 10 participated in the Radha-Krishna competition, where Vedang, son of Gaurav, Shaysa, daughter of Kiran, and Nihira, daughter of Gaurav Pathak, secured the first, second, and third places, respectively. In the Kanha-Yashoda competition, Lucky Trivedi, Surya Lakhara, and Divya Sharma were the first, second, and third place winners. The competitions were judged by Dr. Pratap Singh Jhala, Dr. Ritu Bhatnagar, and Dr. Anil Mehta.

Later, despite heavy rain, the Dahi-Handi competition began around 5 PM. The enthusiasm of the Govindas was at its peak even in the downpour. In the first round, the 30-foot-high pot remained untouched. In the second round, the pot was lowered by two feet, allowing the Annapurna team from Bedla to touch it. In the third round, the pot was lowered by another foot, and the Gadiya Devra team successfully broke it. The event's chief guest, SP Umesh Ojha, presented awards to the winning team. A total of six teams participated in the competition, including Jagdish Chowk Junior, Mahakal Sena, Om Sai Ram, and Sunrise teams.

Co-coordinator Purushottam Shakdvipiya mentioned that from 6 PM to midnight, the Shri Krishna Leelamrit tableaux were displayed in the complex. Co-coordinator Shambhunath added that a grand Bhajan Sandhya was organized from 8 PM, featuring melodious devotional performances by Surveer Kotda, Kailash Dangi, Suresh Gehlot, Arvind Sen, Bhaumik Suthar, and Mukesh Paliwal. The Maha Aarti took place at midnight to mark the celebration of Shri Krishna's birth.
