Udaipur's Maheshwari Chauhan to Represent India in Shotgun at Paris Olympics

Udaipur: Maheshwari Chauhan from Udaipur has qualified to represent India in the Paris Olympics 2024, bringing great joy not only to the City of Lakes but to the entire state of Rajasthan. Maheshwari will be a strong contender in the shotgun event. She, along with Anantjeet Singh Naruka, will compete as India's only pair in the mixed team skeet event. Maheshwari also holds the national record in the skeet event and has previously won numerous medals at both national and international levels. She is married to Adhiraj Singh, the younger son of Raghavendra Singh Rathore from Udaipur.

Earlier, Maheshwari won a silver medal in women's skeet shooting at the ISSF Shotgun Olympic Qualification Championship in Doha, Qatar. Her Olympic event will take place on August 3, 4, and 5 at Chateauroux during the Paris Olympics. She has been rigorously training in Italy for a month and will return to Udaipur on June 25 before heading back to Italy in July for further practice, eventually departing for Paris.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced the Indian shotgun team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after the national selection committee meeting on Tuesday. Senior trap shooter Prithviraj Tondaiman has secured a spot in the men's trap event, while Rajeshwari Kumari will compete in women's trap. Anantjeet Singh Naruka will be India's sole male skeet shooter, with Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan completing the five quota spots earned by the shotgun team. Maheshwari and Anantjeet will also compete as the only Indian pair in the mixed team skeet event. All these athletes will be making their debut at the Paris Games.

NRAI Secretary-General Sultan Singh stated that the competition for Olympic spots was intense, and had some shooters won medals at the recently concluded Lonato World Cup, the selections might have differed. He expressed confidence in the team, noting that they have won the most medals for India in shotgun events and have a strong chance of securing a second Olympic medal. Singh also mentioned that women's trap shooter Shreyasi Singh's name was approved by the committee, and NRAI has written to the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) for quota reallocation. Her name will be published once the necessary approval is received from the ISSF.
