Udaipur: On the eve of the 73rd Foundation Day of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, a captivating "Shastriya Nritya Sandhya" (Classical Dance Evening) was organized at the society's premises. The event, held under the joint auspices of the Rangpristha Foundation, showcased mesmerizing performances of Mohini Attam by renowned dancer Momita Paul and Kathak dance forms by the talented artists of the Rangpristha Foundation.
Dr. Laik Husain, the director of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, highlighted that the society was founded by Padmashri Deelal Samar on February 22, 1952, with the aim of preserving, promoting, and developing indigenous and folk arts and crafts. This year marks the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal.
The "Shastriya Nritya Sandhya" featured Momita Paul presenting Mohini Attam, a traditional dance form showcasing graceful movements and expressive storytelling. The dance portrayed the divine beauty of Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas, depicting her residing by the river, riding a lion, and embodying the beauty of a full moon. Ministering to her were devotees, elephants, kings, and the entire populace, symbolizing the reverence for purity and power.
Following this, Momita Paul presented an Ashtapadi Nritya, an interpretation of Jayadeva's Gita Govinda, where Radha expresses her love for Krishna amidst intricate dance sequences. The performance captured Radha's emotions as she witnesses Krishna's joy in the company of other women, leading to a poignant and visually stunning presentation.
The Rangpristha Foundation artists, Pragnesh Pandya and Jyoti Mali, then showcased Kathak dance in the style of Ardh Narishwar, depicting the enchanting narrative of the disrobing of Draupadi. Under the direction of Shrimati Shipra Chatterjee, the performers added depth and emotion to the storytelling through their expressive movements.
Dr. Husain shared that the celebrations of the 73rd Foundation Day would continue with the staging of the 20th Padmashri Deelal Samar Smriti Rashtriya Natya Samaroh by the Performers Cultural Society, Udaipur, from February 24 to February 28, 2024. The festival will include the presentation of three plays directed by the renowned theater director and actor, Keval Dhaliwal, along with other cultural events. The grand finale on February 28 will feature the performance of the play "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" directed by Prabuddh Pandey.
