Surat, Gujarat: Viral Desai, a well-known environmentalist from Gujarat, is spearheading the establishment of five Seeta Ashok forests in the diamond city. In this endeavor, he has commenced the distribution of 21,000 Seeta Ashok saplings, a process set to continue until January 22. The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability and biodiversity in the region.
Viral Desai, recognized nationwide for his environmental initiatives under the banner 'Greenman,' has previously planted five urban forests. Currently, he is taking a unique approach to celebrate the significance of the Seeta Ashok tree, distributing thousands of saplings. Desai's efforts are gaining substantial support from the local community in Surat, with a large number of people actively participating in the registration of Seeta Ashok trees.
Speaking on the initiative, Viral Desai highlighted the cultural and ecological significance of the Seeta Ashok tree, citing its mention in the Ramayana and its importance in Ayurveda. Desai emphasized the importance of environmental conservation in the context of the Ram Rajya and drew parallels to Lord Rama's commitment to planting trees during his exile.
Desai's Heartwork Foundation has also initiated the planting of 21,000 Ashok trees in Surat, coinciding with the grand inauguration of the Ram Temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22. The environmentalist expressed his belief in worshiping Lord Rama through environmental conservation, making the plantation drive a unique celebration.
Apart from the ongoing Seeta Ashok Forest Project, Viral Desai has future plans to establish five more urban forests, focusing exclusively on the planting of Seeta Ashok trees. The environmentalist, born in Bharuch, Gujarat, has previously developed the 'Shaheed Smruti Van' urban forest in Udhana, Surat, which was honored as the Best Urban Forest in 2021 by then Chief Minister Vijaybhai.
In addition to his urban forestry projects, Viral Desai has designed the Green Udhana Railway Station, recognized as the number one Green Railway Station in India, Asia, and the world by the India Book of Records. His annual 'Tree Ganesha' festival has also garnered significant acclaim in Gujarat.
Over the past two years, the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Surat Police, and the Gujarat Forest Department have officially collaborated with Viral Desai in the 'Tree Ganesha' initiative, further amplifying the impact of his environmental efforts.
