Author, critic, and translator Vijay Joshi will be honored with the "Translation Award.
"Shivaraj Changani, the President of the Rajasthan Language, Literature, and Culture Academy, announced the various awards of the academy for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 during the meetings of the Academy's executive committee and general assembly held on Thursday. Among these awards, under the year 2019-20, the "Bavji Chhatarsingh Ji Translation Award" will be conferred upon Vijay Joshi for his book titled 'Purvaa Ki Udiik' from Kota.
Vijay Joshi: Introduction
Vijay Joshi, a renowned literary figure in Rajasthan, was born on January 1, 1963, in the family of Shri Ramesh Varid and Smt. Prem Varid in Jhalawar, Rajasthan. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Science (Botany), Literature (Hindi), and Education (Guidance and Counseling), as well as a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. He retired from the Department of Education, Government of Rajasthan, after working as a botany lecturer.
Vijay Joshi began his journey in science and environment-related writing in 1985, and his first article titled "Katte Hue Vriksh: Gehra Hua Pradushan" was published in the daily newspaper Navjyoti on September 16, 1985. His first story, 'Teesh,' was broadcasted on Akashvani Kota on August 19, 1994. His first collection of stories, 'Khamosh Galiyare,' was published in 1996 with the support of the Rajasthan Sahitya Academy, Udaipur. This collection laid the foundation for his storytelling and his expression of thoughts through stories.
Over more than four decades of his literary journey, Vijay Joshi has published over ten Hindi and Rajasthani novels, a collection of five Hindi short stories, 'Khamosh Galiyare,' 'Kenwaas Ke Pare,' 'Kuhasa Ka Safar,' 'Bindhe Hue Rishte,' and 'Sulagta Maun,' one Hindi children's story, 'Badal Gaya Minku,' and two collections of Rajasthani short stories, 'Mandir Mein Ek Din' and 'Aasar.' He has also written reviews of nearly 250 books on literature and has authored four separate books of reviews. These reviews cover various forms of literature, including stories, short stories, poems, satire, novels, essays, section-verse, and Satsai tradition, as well as literature, education, architecture, philosophy, etc.
Interestingly, despite having submitted three synopses for a Ph.D., due to the stubbornness of the department, he did not obtain a Ph.D., while three individuals who undertook his literature for their doctorates and one for their M.Phil have obtained their respective degrees.
Vijay Joshi is also known as a translator. His translation of Urdu short stories titled 'Bade Saba Ka Intezar' has been published in 'Purvaa Ki Udiik' (2016) by the Central Sahitya Akademi, Delhi.
He has received numerous awards and honors from various organizations across the country. His national awards include the 'Pandit Pratap Narayan Mishra Memorial Short Story Award' in the 'Youth Literature Award-2002, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; 'Laghukatha Vidha' in the 'All India Hindi Hai Hum Campaign' - 2022; 'Hindi Pride Award' - 2003, Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh; 'Smt. Radha Singh Memorial Award' - 2003, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; 'Akhil Bharatiya Dharmaveer Bharati Memorial' - 2002, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; and 'National Talent Award - 'Kalam - Kaladhara Award' - 2011, Udaipur.
At the state level as well, he has received numerous awards and honors. He has a deep interest in arts and music (singing and playing) as well as painting.
