Splendor of Shravan Festival Shines at Bikaner House, New Delhi

On the fifth day of the ongoing weekly Shravan Festival at Bikaner House in New Delhi, a cultural evening named "Basant" was organized to showcase the richness of Rajasthani art, music, and dance. The event saw the presence of dignitaries, including the Chief Resident Commissioner of the Rajasthan Government, the Additional Chief Secretary, Mrs. Shubhra Singh, the Commissioner, of Rajasthan Foundation, Mr. Dheeraj Srivastava, and others.

The cultural procession commenced with the ceremonial worship of Goddess Teej, which was performed by the Rajasthan Government's Chief Resident Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, and Commissioner of Rajasthan Foundation. The procession, led by artists mounted on camels, was taken around the Bikaner House premises. Women dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire added to the grandeur of the event with their adorned water pots. The camel-mounted artists beautifully showcased the procession. This procession included various high-ranking officials and esteemed guests.

The cultural program started with lighting lamps by the distinguished guest, Governor of Malta, Mrs. Ruven Gauci. In her speech, Chief Resident Commissioner, Mrs. Shubhra Singh, congratulated the event organizers and shed light on Rajasthan's art and culture. She emphasized that in recent years, events like these have played a pivotal role in acquainting people in Delhi with Rajasthan's art and culture.

Mrs. Singh mentioned that the Shravan Festival is a wonderful opportunity for the Rajasthan diaspora and residents of Delhi to experience Rajasthani art, culture, and handicrafts all in one place. The festival features Rajasthan's traditional clothing, cuisine, arts, and cultural activities, providing a chance to explore and indulge in the state's diversity.

On this occasion, a vibrant cultural evening organized by Rajasthan Tourism at Chandni Bagh, was held under the title "Rangarang Karyakram." On this cultural evening, the honored recipient of the "Supreme Woman Power Award," Rajasthan's Begum Batool, and her troupe entertained the audience with their artistic talents. Artists from various regions of Rajasthan presented various performances, including folk dances, devotional music, and more.

The Chief Resident Commissioner, Mr. Dheeraj Srivastava, shared that with the collaboration of Rajasthan Tourism, Rajasthan Foundation, Bikaner House Management Committee, and RUDA (Rural Non-Farm Development Agency), the Shravan Festival commenced on August 15 and will continue until August 20, 2023. The festival is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the general public. The event features more than 40 stalls set up by Rajasthan artisans, showcasing a wide range of Rajasthani handicrafts and cultural items for visitors to purchase.

In addition to handicrafts, the festival offers a cultural evening full of performances, including traditional Rajasthani music, dance, and devotional songs. This event brings together artists from different regions of Rajasthan to showcase their talents and provide a mesmerizing experience for the audience.

The evening concluded with devotional music performances by Shri Dhruv Sangeri, a renowned Sufi and classical Indian vocalist, musician, lyricist, scholar, and teacher. Afterward, the attendees were treated to a Rajasthani feast featuring various delicious dishes.

Notable attendees at the event included Mr. Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Sherpa, senior officers of the Indian Administrative Service, representatives of various foreign missions, commissioners of several states, and officials and staff of various state government offices in Delhi.
