Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established the "National Traders Welfare Board." Sunil Singh has been chosen as the inaugural chairman of this board. The creation of the "National Traders Welfare Board" by the Indian government aims to promote the well-being of traders. Sunil Jivaraj Singh, a young leader from Sirohi, has been appointed the board's first chairman. Singh currently resides in Ahmedabad and has served as the first Jain member of the National Minority Commission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to form this board, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was driven by his desire to ensure social security and welfare for the country's traders and their employees. The board's formation was decided in 2019 to develop welfare programs that would benefit traders. In his role as chairman, Sunil Singh envisions streamlining regulations, enhancing social security, establishing a fund, reducing bureaucratic procedures, and addressing the challenges traders face.
The board's operations will fall under the purview of the Internal Trade and E-commerce Department, with oversight from a senior IAS officer serving as the secretary. The board will comprise two trade experts, three representatives from trade unions, and eight members from different states associated with the trading community. Additionally, nine officers holding the position of Joint Secretary invited as members, will oversee matters pertaining to traders. These officers will represent the Ministries of Commerce, Finance, Agriculture and Cooperation, Small and Medium Enterprises, Electronics and Information Technology, as well as the NITI Aayog.
Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunil Singh stated his commitment to working diligently in the interest of traders. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and pledged to fulfill the significant responsibility bestowed upon him. Soon, he will meet with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, to gain comprehensive knowledge about the board's functioning. The Government of India had issued notifications regarding establishing this board on July 26, 2019, and December 17, 2019.
Sunil Singh has been actively involved in politics, social initiatives, and religious organizations for a considerable period. He serves as the International President of the Jain Youth Federation and holds positions as a trustee in the Delwara Jain Temple and Shri Pavapuri Tirth-Jeev Maitridham.
Upon his appointment as chairman, numerous officials from various business, social, political, and religious organizations extended their congratulations and expressed their best wishes for his successful tenure.
