All the states of India organize one or other tourism festivals throughout the year. Their main objective is to increase tourism more and more in the states. In Ladakh, also known as the cold desert of India, the Ladakh Festival, organized by the Tourism Department in Leh in September with local cooperation, is also organized every year intending to connect tourists with the region's rich culture and for the purpose of tourism development.
Ladakh Festival
    It is a very colorful and entertaining festival. The celebration begins with a spectacular parade performance for about two weeks, with attractions such as the colors of local culture, traditions, costumes, traditional music, folk dances, unique instruments, handicrafts, archery competitions, and the delicious cuisine of Ladakh. In this, all the tribes of the state wear masks and perform dance folk and singing, which is so attractive that one keeps on watching.
     Colorfully dressed residents of Turtuk, Drokpas, and Dah Hanu, along with others, participate in their traditional costumes and march in the traditional parade. You will be stunned to see flower crowns, silver, and sapphire ornaments here. Many monasteries and villages also join in the fun. Polo matches are also organized at this festival for entertainment.
      This festival provides an important opportunity for tourists to see and understand the entire culture of Ladakh in one place. The traditional Ladakhi attire also grabs your attention. The dress for Ladakhi men is known as Gaucha, a woolen garment tied around the neck and waist. The robe protects them from the cold and makes them quite fashionable. The garment is secured with a vibrant sash known locally as a seraph. The Perak cap adds more color to the attire. Women wear a similar woolen garment known as Kuntop.

   To attract more and more tourists, the tourism department has started Apricot Blossom Festival in April. Apricot is called "chili men do" in the local language. The festival is held in Leh's Biama, Turtuk, and Tyakshi villages and Darchik, Garkone, Sanjak, Hardas, and Karkichu. Ladakh has the highest concentration of apricot trees, and more than a dozen varieties are found.
   Tourists get exhilarated by the smell of their flowers and colorful fruit-laden trees. The fruit has become an integral part of Ladakh's culture, heritage, and economy. Apricot is the main cash crop for the people of Kargil and Drass, and many people's livelihood depends on apricot cultivation.

Hemis festival
  There is no fixed date for the annual festival at Hemis Gompa, the largest and most famous, but it begins on the full moon day in June, the fifth month according to the Tibetan calendar, and lasts for three days. The Hemis festival is a popular celebration of Buddhist culture, which is celebrated with music and dance by monastic Buddhist lamas and Buddhist monks dressed in colorful costumes and wearing various masks. During the festival, a 4-story picture of Guru Padmasambhava is hung in the courtyard, and other precious thangka paintings are displayed.
      The most outstanding performance of the festival is the "Cham dance" performed by Lama Santo, wearing a mask with horns in the role of the demon, Yamo. The musicians who participate in this dance-like game are all lamas, who play 15-15 feet long drums, trumpets, and significant. The game is played in the verandah of Hemis Gompa itself and showcases the drama of victory of good over evil. Chham dance is a part of the Buddhist tantric tradition and is practiced only in monasteries.
The Hemis Monastery is lavishly decorated, and the festivities are held in two parts of the monastery, the assembly hall on the right and the main temple on the left. The festive events are organized on the premises in front of the monastery's main gate. A colorful Tibetan table is placed on a mattress on a high platform, on which ritual objects such as holy water vessels, raw rice, tormas (a mixture made of kneaded flour and butter), and incense sticks are placed. In the Hemis festival, those participating in the program pray to god for a good life and end the festival with laughter and happiness.
     Many tourists come to Ladakh to see this dance. Local citizens also gather in large numbers. The most famous and big 'Thanka' picture is displayed only once in 12 years.
      The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm to commemorate the birth of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet. Guru Padmasambhava is considered the second most extraordinary Guru after Lord Buddha. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava conquered all evil forces with the help of Tantric Buddhism.
      Here are the famous and old buildings of Buddhism. Hemis Gompa, located on the banks of the Indus River in the east-south at a distance of about 48 km from Leh, is famous worldwide for the beauty and attractiveness of its art. This Gompa is equipped with precious paintings and inscriptions. The idols in this Gompa have been worked with gold, and precious stones are also inlaid.
