Supporting The Voice Of Iran Through Iranian Music At 15th Jaipur International Film Festival

After three exciting days of the 15th Jaipur International Film festival, the fourth day only raised the bar higher. Movie buffs from around the city attended the festival in huge numbers.

From screenings across all genres and nationalities to insightful sessions hosted by Jaipur Film Market, the festival had something special in store for every attendee.

The last day of Jaipur Film Market was inaugurated with the book launch of the book titled ‘Aur kuch panne kohre reh gaye- Irfan’ written by Ajay Brahmatmaj.

The book launch was followed by an insightful session with panelists Ravi Chaturvedi, Ajay Brahmatmaj, and Irfan Khan’s son Babil Khan.

Explaining the motivation behind writing this book, Ajay said, “I had always wanted to write a book on Irfan and I was more pressured when he had fallen ill. Though I did not want to use that as an opportunity to sell my book. This book portrays the 360-degree picture of Irfan’s life and it includes memoirs of 36 of his very close people.”

The very eager crowd waited upon Babil Khan to share his memories with his father and the learnings he has received from him. “Baba has always taught me that a person’s core values, and preparedness come out best when he/she is under pressure. Talking about spending time in Jaipur while flying kites, I always felt I was very close to him. In Mumbai and between work, life was different because we were distant. However, Baba has always been a friend to me more than a father or a guide.”

Sharing his childhood memories from the kite flying days, Babil said, “I never learned how to fly a kite but Baba was great at it. Also, I didn’t personally like flying kites because Baba used to completely forget me while flying kites and I didn’t like it.”

Widely regarded as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, it is said that if he was serious about anything at all, it was his craft.

Throwing light upon his early acting days, his theatre Guru, Ravi Chaturvedi said, “Irfan used to be scared to mention that he wishes to work for films in front of me because he knew I would want him to work on his acting skills first and then make a choice. Irfan was a special student because he used to be completely involved and immersed in acting. His internal actions and inward nature supported his outward actions.”

The next session was a platform of great knowledge sharing on Indian States Film Policies for the benefit of film producers and directors.

Next up was an open dialogue for all delegates on the topic ‘Do we need Film City in the current scenario.’

Beyond screening films from around the globe, JIFF has always been known for raising awareness on subjects of concern worldwide.

One such issue concerning the world is the oppression against women of Iran which never gets as tough and complicated as facing the Morality police does.

To support women in Iran, a special music piece was played as a tribute to their fight. The music was received by an Iranian filmmaker, Maryan Pirband.

Taking this forward on another musical note, Playback singer Ravindra Upadhyay engaged the audience with some of his favourite tracks such as Padharo maare des, Bade Ache lagte Hai, and a Rajasthani folk song among a few others.

Apart from such interesting sessions conducted as a part of the Jaipur Film Market, movie enthusiasts turned up to watch films & documentaries in great numbers.

For the first time at any film festival around the world, Jiff screened 4 films based on Yoga theme. Jiff Director Hanu Roj said, “Never has it ever happened before that films concerning mental health and wellness are screened at a Film Festival. We are glad we can invite and screen films on such topics.”

The last day of the 15th Jaipur International Film Festival will screen some great films such as Minzar, Adhiyamaanum Aalamarmum, The Pink Lagoon among a few others.
