Punit Balana Present “The Royal Bagh” at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020
Mumbai,This season at Lakme Fashion week Summer/Resort 2020, Jaipur-based designer, Punit Balana showcases ‘The Royal Bagh’ collection, which is inspired by the renowned Sisodia Rani Palace Garden of Jaipur. The collectionis a beautiful mix of traditional Indian designs and silhouettes in typically Mughal style. An ode to the Rajwaras of Rajasthan, the new collection showcases the royal past of the pink city in a modern contemporary way.Rooted in the principles of comfort and wear-ability, chic silhouettes in mulmul and cotton, give a sense of ease and extravagance to the garments that make up the collection.
The show-stopper for Punit’s collection is Bollywood star, Tara Sutaria, who the designer enjoys close ties with and who he has worked with before. Speaking on her collaboration with Punit, Tara says, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be walking for Punit at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort! I have always loved Punit’s work and enjoy wearing his creations. The collection that will be showcased on the runway includes an eclectic mix of traditional and western silhouettes. Focusing on only four colours, the collection includes a festive line in pink and steel-grey– perfect for a Summer wedding, and all the functions like the mehendi,the sangeet and the pheras, that come with it. Additionally, the Western silhouettes of the resort-wear that makes up the collection are created in hues of indigo and ice-blue, which make them perfect for a chic beach or cruise holiday.The Royal Bagh Collection boasts bolder designs in attractive silhouettes including long-split skirts, saris with crop tops, smart pant suits in prints and Punit’s signature kedia style.
In the Indian/Festive line there are leheriya, floral and peacock motifs, asseen in the bagh. These have been beautifully showcased though a one-of-a-kind printing technique called ‘mom ka chhaapa’, whereby the printing is done usingornately carved, wax-filled metal blocks.Experimenting with embroidery onthe jackets and saris that are a part of the collection, Punit has usedfor the first time ever, coin work and sequins, along with his signature dori work andzardozi, all of which work together to enhance the collection and showcase the designer’s aesthetic. Punit has also introduced leather potlis as accessories with this collection.
