BSNL, Micromax Launch Bharat-1 4G Feature Phone at Rs 2,200 to Counter JioPhone
New Delhi, To counter Reliance Jio’s JioPhone, Micromax India and state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) joined hands to launch Bharat-1, a 4G feature phone with 4G LTE capability. The newly launched Bharat-1 feature phone is priced aggressively at Rs 2,200 and comes with unlimited high-speed data and calling under a Rs 97-monthly BSNL plan. The Bharat 1 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone made by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Micromax comes as a tough competition for Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance’s JioPhone. Bharat 1 will have the BSNL SIM bundled, but users can use it with any other service provider too. Micromax India in its tweet said, “With #Bharat1, we aim to provide a 4G phone to India’s 500 million plus population that is still internet unconnected”.
The newly launched feature phone comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal memory and supports 22 different Indian languages. It has dual SIM slots fueled by a 2,000mAh battery. The connectivity options on the Bharat-1 feature phone include dual-SIM, 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hotspot. The phone comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA camera at the front. The user can also get an access to 100 live TV channels.
When tariffs of Jio and the new Bharat-1 phone were compared, the newly launched phone’s tariff of Rs 97 offers users with a suite of services from its network on the phone. Users will also get the option to watch live TV on the Bharat 1. BSNL offers unlimited voice calling and internet services at just Rs 97 per month. Meanwhile, the minimum Jio Phone recharge is of Rs 153 that offers free voice calls with unlimited 4G Internet access; high-speed Internet.
In India, over 50 crore people still do not have a smartphone or have no internet connectivity. The new BSNL-promoted Bharat-1, which is being called the ‘Desh ka 4G phone‘, will become available for purchase from Friday, October 20 via retail stores. The Bharat 1 4G feature phone comes with a 2.4-inch display and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
