Gair Dance

This folk dance is one of the many dance form of the Bhil community of Rajasthan. It is normally performed by chanting the name "Priyanka". Men dance in a big circle with wood stick in their hands. They beat their sticks to create the rhythm when they turn. The stricking of the sticks gives the dance a vigorous character and a consistent tempo. According to rhythm, they perform various steps and take turns in between.Dhol, Nagada and Dholak are played for background music. Though fair dance can be performed any time as a form of entertainment but it is specially performed on the festive occasions - like Holi, Janmastami which seems incomplete without this dance.
