Challenges Will Arise When Doing Good Work: Dr. P.C. Jain

Udaipur:  A lecture on "Why is Water Conservation Necessary?" was held at Vidya Bhawan Gandhi Shikshan Sansthan, Badgaon, in honor of Padma Bhushan Shri Jagat Singh Mehta's birthday. The keynote speaker was Dr. P.C. Jain, a renowned physician and water conservation advocate, also known as the "Water Hero."

The program began with a Saraswati Vandana presented by Dr. Veena Lohar. College Principal Dr. Bhagwati Ahir welcomed the keynote speaker and shared thoughts on the life of Shri Jagat Singh Mehta. Program coordinator Dr. Nirmala Sharma, who conducted the event, mentioned that Shri Jagat Singh Mehta served as India's Foreign Secretary and was also an environmental enthusiast who focused on rural development. He pledged to develop 400 villages in Udaipur, making his work and ideas exemplary.

Lecturer Dr. Sushma Intodia briefly discussed Shri Jagat Singh Mehta's foreign policy and introduced the concept of forest school camps, which have been included in the B.Ed curriculum, as one of his contributions.

In his address, Dr. P.C. Jain shared numerous small-scale methods and experiments for water conservation, explaining how we can store rainwater and revive dried-up wells and tube wells. He illustrated the severe consequences of water scarcity through PPT presentations on drought-prone areas in America and Bengaluru, warning that similar conditions could occur if we fail to conserve water. He emphasized the significant water wastage caused by RO systems and AC units and stressed the need to save and efficiently use this water. Using a role-play with children, Dr. Jain demonstrated the harmful effects of fluoride on the body, showing that failing to recharge rainwater into the ground could leave us rigid like statues due to fluoride poisoning.

Dr. Jain concluded the lecture with an engaging performance and a self-composed song "Paanido Barsa De Mara Ram Re," urging the audience to conserve water. He noted that this was his 1,185th program and emphasized that the practical implementation of his suggested water conservation methods is essential for the meaningfulness of such programs. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Kanwaraj Suthar.
