Commitment to Strengthen Udaipur’s Position on Global Tourism Map
Udaipur : A key meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of District Collector Namit Mehta. The meeting focused on promoting tourism in Udaipur and ensuring the safety of tourists. District Collector Mehta emphasized that tourism has given Udaipur a unique identity on the global map, and therefore, the safety and convenience of tourists must remain the top priority.
Night Tourism Holds Great Potential – Collector
Highlighting the immense scope for Night Tourism, Collector Mehta stated the need to develop public transport, markets, and other basic infrastructure to support it in Udaipur. He noted that this initiative is also part of the state government’s budget announcement and called for coordinated efforts. The meeting discussed extending visiting hours at tourist sites, setting up cafeterias, enhanced lighting, and establishing night markets.
AI-Based Traffic Management at Fatehpura Junction
The Collector instructed the implementation of an AI-based Traffic Management system as a pilot project at Fatehpura junction. This system will go live within a month and will analyze real-time traffic data. If congestion increases in a particular direction, the green light duration will be extended accordingly. Mehta also suggested declaring Old City and Fatehsagar areas as pedestrian zones on weekends from 6 PM to 10 PM, to enhance tourist safety and mobility.
Wildlife Tourism Circuit Plan to be Developed
Acknowledging the potential of Wildlife Tourism, the Collector proposed creating an integrated circuit plan connecting Udaipur with nearby districts like Chittorgarh and Rajsamand. He directed the DFO to prepare this plan within a week and ensure its availability at major hotels and tourist locations. The plan will highlight each wildlife zone’s features, timings, and fee structures. The DFO was also asked to repair convex mirrors on the curved roads of Sajjangarh within a week for safety enhancement.
Focus on Tourist Safety and Amenities
The Collector directed strict action against touts and effective monitoring of the Tourism Police Station. He instructed that all tourist sites must have artistic signage boards installed within a month for easy identification. Adequate deployment of staff at tourist spots was also mandated. Stressing the importance of hygiene, the Collector asked the Municipal Corporation and UDA Commissioner to survey and submit a report on the cleanliness of restrooms at tourist spots and ensure timely repairs where necessary.
Auto Fare Regulation Proposed
The meeting also discussed issues related to the Tourism Police Station, auto stands, and fare regulations. Proposals included fixing auto fares, mandating uniforms, name plates, and number plates for drivers. The Collector instructed representatives from the auto union, tourism department, administration, transport department, and traffic police to convene and work toward implementation.

All participants reiterated their commitment to Udaipur’s tourism development.
