The Thar Heritage Museum of Jaisalmer is a priceless treasure of desert folk arts where hundreds of rare items have been preserved. solo collection
This museum was established on December 9, 2006, with the inspiration of the then-District Collector Dr. Krishna Kant Pathak from the personal collection of folk art scholar Lakshminarayan Khatri over the years. Khatri aims to protect the vanishing folk arts and heritage. A book and several research articles have also been published on Khatri's folk art and the history of Jaisalmer. The remarkable thing is that financial support has yet to be received from the government etc., for the museum's operation.
Burn again restore
There was a fire in this museum about 10 months ago, due to which many artifacts were burnt and the museum was irreparably damaged. The museum's founder again collected many things with his passion, and recently, this museum was established at Gramin Haat Ramgarh Road.
What's in the museum?
Various marine fossils are millions of years old in the glass showcase, which shows that there was once a sea on this land, and after drying, it became a desert. Ancient handwritten rare manuscripts related to religious rituals and astrology. Maharawal Ranjit Singh of Jaisalmer, Berishal Singh, and Shalivahan Singh's handwritten state-stamped letters. Letters related to medicine, municipality, trade, tax, marriage, electricity, printing house of Maharawal Jawahar Singh's reign period, books written by Amar Shaheed Sagarmal Gopa, Raghunath Singh's Sue and Gopa Maths are collected.
Copper dodhiya and silver Amarsahi coins of Jaisalmer state. Paintings of Krishna Radha, Jainism, and Hindu deities of Jaisalmer style. Also, black and white photos of Vividh Maharawal. Swords, armor, and shields of Veer Bhati Sardars are also displayed in this museum. The museum has a beautiful collection of artistic items used in rural life. Manufactured old shears, shears for cutting sheep's wool, bullock baskets and bells, tweezers for removing thorns, similarly agricultural tools plow, data, Kashi, karni, ax, etc. wooden and ivory paper.Surmedania, useful in hunting Wala Kud, a brass elephant's mouthpiece. There is also a wonderful collection of musical instruments played by Manganiyar artists. There is also a display of desi ghee chips and kudos.
Apart from opium sieve and smelter, there is a collection of Marwari Seth's books and articles like Takdi, Baat, Bilbuk, Hundi, etc. Similarly, on another wall, local women The unique samples of traditional embroidery such as Toran, Pankhi, Raali, Idhani, Khalechi, Topi, Thali, Chaupad, Kurti Kanchli, Angarkhi, horse and camel's nose to tail ornaments are adorned here. Brass and clay utensils are also displayed here.
Received Awards and Honors
The District Collector and Magistrate honored Jaisalmer on January 26, 2007, for the work of collecting ancient material to keep alive the culture of Jaisalmer; similarly, on August 15, 2008, the Governor of Rajasthan, at the state level for the preservation of public heritage. In 2019, American Institute TripAdvisor was awarded the Certificate of Excellence and National Tourism Pride Award by Tourism Today, published in Gwalior.
At present, the trust of this museum has been formed, whose objective is to preserve the folk art heritage of the desert region and pollute the coming generations, to keep it alive, and to promote the research and research of culture, history, and life. This museum is open every day.
