PM Modi Offers Condolences to Families of Ahmedabad Plane Crash Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ahmedabad on Friday and met with the families of those who perished in the tragic plane crash, offering heartfelt condolences and emotional support. He also visited the residence of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost family members in the crash, and comforted the grieving household.

Before meeting the families, the Prime Minister inspected the crash site and surveyed the surrounding areas damaged by the impact. He also visited the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and interacted with the injured, including the sole survivor, Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, who miraculously escaped death despite serious injuries.

Spending nearly 20 minutes at the crash site, PM Modi later chaired a review meeting with Gujarat government officials and civil aviation authorities to assess the situation and plan further action. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State for Civil Aviation had also visited the site on Thursday evening.

The horrific crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, London, crashed shortly after take-off. The tragedy claimed 265 lives, including 242 passengers and 12 crew members. Among the passengers were 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, 1 Canadian, and 169 Indian citizens. The aircraft, carrying over 1.25 lakh litres of fuel, exploded into a fireball upon impact with a medical college building near Meghani Nagar, leaving no time for rescue.

Astonishingly, one passenger fell with his seat and survived with injuries, becoming the only living witness to the catastrophe.

Among the victims were Dr. Komi Vyas from Banswara, her husband Dr. Prateek Joshi, and his family members Pradyut, Miraya, and Nakul Joshi, who were headed to settle in London permanently. Dr. Komi had recently resigned from Pacific Hospital, Udaipur, and was planning to start a new life with her husband. The Joshi family’s tragic demise has left the entire Vagad region in mourning, and their final selfie has now become a heartbreaking symbol circulating in the media worldwide.

Prime Minister Modi has instructed Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel to ensure comprehensive aid to victims' families and full medical treatment for the injured.
