Udaipur : The Neuro Sciences team of Paras Hospitals, Udaipur has achieved another success by performing successful surgery on a 17-year-old patient named; Kanhaiya Lal with the 3D mesh implant technique.

Dr. Ajit Singh, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgeon, Paras Hospitals, Udaipur, said that a 17-year-old young man was brought to Paras Hospitals, Udaipur in January in a state of unconsciousness and weakness. The patient was experiencing more weakness on the right side of the body. A day after, with this complaint, the patient was admitted to the hospital. When the patient was admitted to the hospital, there was a lot of swelling in his brain, due to which the pressure inside his head increased and the patient had reached a state of unconsciousness. In many such cases, if the treatment is not given on time, there are fair chances of the patient going into a coma. In this situation, the Hospital performed a surgery to reduce the pressure called a decompressive craniectomy. In this procedure, bone from a part of the skull is removed so that pressure of brain can be reduced. This procedure is typically performed in conditions associated with head injury, stroke, and increased intracranial (increased pressure inside the head).

“After this procedure the patient was discharged till the pressure inside the head returned to normal. His head was disfigured after the removal of a portion of his head, which was re-covered through cranioplasty to match the patient's head size, as before. This is a skillful procedure and generally difficult to perform. This procedure is available only at few hospitals of Rajasthan of which Paras Hospitals, Udaipur is one such centre. The surgery was successful and now the patient has recovered to a great extent, he is also able to do his daily activities.” Dr. Ajit Singh, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgeon, Paras Hospitals, Udaipur added.

Recovered and happy Kanhaiya Lal said that, "I thank Dr. Ajit Singh and the entire team of Paras Hospitals, Udaipur, as they have given me the opportunity to live a second life. Dr. Ajit helped me to normalize the size of my head. They have given me a normal life, for which I am very happy and thankful to Paras Hospitals, Udaipur."
