Spit free India campaign in lake city

Priti Raja and Raja Narasimhan are Co-Founders of Sare Jahan Se Acha Foundation, a registered Not for Profit Company since 2013 in Pune. Both have extensive experience having worked in MNCs and as Entrepreneurs.

SPIT FREE INDIA is one of their key projects to spread awareness about the ills of spitting in public places. They urge upon  the people who do not spit also to get involved and start telling others not to spit. Spitting in public is the main cause for the spread of  diseases likeTB, Influenza, Swine flu, Pneumonia, Corona etc. They have been working for this cause relentlessly in Pune by engaging students from schools and colleges. Pune Municipal Corporation has been supporting this initiative too. Activities like public wall painting, street plays, sessions for secondary school students, events on special occasions are some of the campaigns they organise.

Owing to Covid-19 the campaign took a back seat as not much outdoor activity could be conducted.  This February they decided to take the campaign across India keeping in mind the pandemic protocol with minimum direct interaction with the public but at the same time the message can be spread. They decorated their personal Renault Duster car with anti-spitting messages in various languages.  In March, they drove through coastal Maharashtra, and visited tourist places like Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Sangli and Satara. Wherever they stopped, the car attracted the attention of the general public and were curious to know about the campaign and acknowledged their efforts.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 second wave put a halt for 3 months. After getting both the vaccinations, they started Phase 2 of their campaign drive to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.  DGP of Karnataka, CP of Bengaluru and Additional Commissioner of Bengaluru Municipal Corporation participated in flag-off events and the event was a grand success. There were several street corner events with local groups which were organised.

Their Phase 3 of the campaign drive was to Nashik, Dhule, Indore and Ujjwain.  Currently, they are in Phase 4 covering Surat, Ahmedabad and Udaipur. They will return to Pune via Vadodra and Silvasa.  In Udaipur, they visited several tourist spots and interacted with locals at several busy spots and bylanes.

As their Labrador pet dog Cara accompanies them it is an added attraction for both children and adults.   We are active on FB and Insta @ SPIT FREE INDIA CAMPAIGN.
