All India Workshop of Trainers for 75th Round begun The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) under the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation started its two-day All India Workshop of Trainers (AIWOT) for the 75th Round survey today, the 13th April 2017 in Udaipur.

Shri D. V. Sadanand Gowda, Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India inaugurated the Workshop. Smt. Kiran Maheshwari, Minister for Higher Education and Science & Technology, Government of Rajasthan graced the occasion. Dr. Radha Binod Barman, Chairman, National Statistical Commission and Dr. T. C. A. Anant, Chief Statistician of India and Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation were present.

Union Minister in his inaugural address acknowledged the role of statistical data in planning and policy formulation and appreciated the role played by NSSO in collection of reliable data in such a vast country like India. He expressed his confidence that the 75th Round survey will provide critical inputs for effective planning, administration, monitoring and evaluation of policies on education and health.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction that in 75th Round survey, data will be collected on a number of parameters to measure the status of availability and use of individual household level toilets, solid and liquid waste management which will help assess the progress made by the country in achieving the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission. Further, data will be collected for measuring many indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Deliberating on the importance of employment data, he informed about the launch of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) this month. For the first time, data for PLFS is being collected using tablets.

Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Government of Rajasthan in her address informed about the welfare initiatives taken by State Government employing latest technological advancements in the field of information technology, for improved delivery of services to targeted beneficiaries. She expressed her gratitude towards Union Minister for facilitating State Government. in its endeavor to establish a robust statistical system in the State.
Dr. Radha Binod Barman, Chairman, National Statistical Commission, in his address emphasized the need of using cutting edge technology in data collection with the objective of collection of quality data in real time and reducing time lag in release of reports.

Chief Statistician of India and Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Dr. T.C.A. Anant in his address informed the participants about the objective of the survey and emphasized the role of such workshops in collection of comprehensive, coherent and reliable data.

The two-day Workshop is being attended by senior officers of NSSO and the State Directorates of Economics & Statistics and representatives from Central Ministries/Departments. Detailed discussion on the survey instruments will be held with the senior officers from the field offices during these two days for finalizing the survey instruments and effective implementation of the guidelines for canvassing of schedules in the field.
