Prarambh 2018, a start-up competition organized by Saksham- the Entrepreneurship Cell of IIM Udaipur, concluded today after an eventful two days session for budding entrepreneurs to help them transform their breakthrough ideas into successful business models. The annual event aims to uphold the entrepreneurship culture of the institute.The programme, which commenced on 17thFebruary 2018, began with mentors brief and was followed by entrepreneurship address and networking sessions between the esteemed mentors and the participants. The event witnessed participation from various institutes across the country. Each team was mentored for two months by eminent entrepreneurs before they arrived at the campus for the final pitch.
While interacting with the participants,Mr. Gaurav Mantri, Founder and Head of Technology, Cynapta and one of the mentors, shared his thoughts on how an entrepreneur needs to proactive. He said that it is imperative for an entrepreneur to not be emotionally attached to failures.Mr. Angad Abrol,co-founder of Tempawala.com, spoke about his journey and said that therecannot be a single big lesson that wouldlead every entrepreneur to success. Mr. Vijay Ladha,Business Mentor, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, Mr. Rohit Jaiswal, Co-Founder,Bombay Shaving Company, and Mr. Mrityunjai Yadav, Founder, Neutree Ventures also shared their experience of being an entrepreneur as well as a mentor for Prarambh 2018.
During the Entrepreneurship Address that followed, Mr. Nagaraja Prakasham, Partner, Acumen Fund, Founding Angel,Indian Angel Network spoke about social entrepreneurship and the present economic state of our country. He urged the budding talents to focus on the problems pertaining to India and work on developing a business opportunity out of it. Mr. Ramesh Alur, General Partner, VenturEast (APIDC Venture Capital), shared his views on what an investor looks for in a start-up. He stressed on the importance of seeking knowledge first, and not money, to be successful.
The second and final day of the event began with various teams pitching their final ideas before the judges. After an eight-week long preparation, guidance, andhardwork,team Learn India from IIM Calcutta emerged as the winners and team Hopin from Thapar University became the first runner-up for the category ‘existing start-ups with minimum viable products’.The team Leau Natural Spring water from Fore Schoolof Management was declared as the winner and team My Legacy as the first runner-up for the category ‘a start-up in an ideation stage.’While team Rozi Roti from SCMHRD emerged as the winners of the category‘social entrepreneurship’, team Project Kaushal from Delhi College of Arts and Commerce bagged the second prize.
The event concluded with Professor Janat Shah, Director, IIM Udaipur congratulating the winners and sharing his views on entrepreneurship.
